This is perhaps one of the best songs composed by O.P. Nayyar for Geeta Dutt. Accordion plays a major part in setting the overall mood of the song and Geeta sings this song in her distinctive frothy style.

This song was picturized on Shakila. According to her,

“Guru Dutt used to explain things well to us artistes. He was very mild, and patient. But he’d get angry when he didn’t get what he wanted. Then he would be very picky. There was a scene in which I had to look down and then fling my head back. We had five or six retakes. He wanted me to look exactly the way he had imagined. He was particular about the way my hair fell. I didn’t have the chance to work with him again, but I did act in Raj Khosla’s C.I.D. which was produced by Guru Dutt.

The first day I worked with Guru Dutt for Aar Paar involved a song sequence. I went to the sets, a room with cardboard boxes lying everywhere. It looked like nothing. Everyone asked Guru Dutt how he could possibly film there. But he did. The song was, Houn abhi main jawan (I am still young) and how fantastically he picturized it.”

Shabistan (1951) is famous for his hero Shyam because he fell from horseback during the shooting of this film and died young. He is the father of Sahira Kazmi – a highly talented producer who has made several teleplays and serials for Pakistan Television Corporation.

Geeta Dutt

A versatile playback singer who could breathe life into her songs, Geeta Dutt was known for the freshness and charm of her voice. Born Geeta Roy, she moved to Bombay with her parents at the age of 12. Even though she lacked formal training in classical music, she impressed music director Hanuman Prasad enough to give her two lines to sing in Bhakta Prahlad.

Geeta Dutt’s first major assignment was for Do Bhai the following year, with its popular number Mera sundar sapna beet gaya. Her work in the film Baazi revealed a new dimension to her singing — a lighthearted, sensuous touch, especially in the song Tadbeer se bigdi hui. In 1953, she married the film’s director, Guru Dutt; some of her best work thereafter was in his films, including Mr and Mrs ’55, Pyaasa, and Kaagaz Ke Phool.

Guru Dutt’s death, in 1964, affected her enormously, professionally and personally. However, Geeta Dutt continued to sing, and died shortly after her fine work in Anubhav, in 1972 – (Source :- Encyclopaedia of Hindi Cinema)
